Ockum's Razor

1.
We noticed that your band embraces the internet.
Have you
gained additional fans through the various sites your on?
Yes, we have gained some additional fans this way. Cross
promotion is a good way for bands and internet stations alike
to get more exposure.
2.
Do you feel that internet radio has had an impact
for indie
bands?
I believe it has, why just the other day I read somewhere
that internet stations have gained listeners again over the past
year, up like 27 percent I think from the previous one. The only
downfall from my perspective is that bands and internet stations
alike sometimes come and go. It is hard for the stations to keep
up with the bands and the bands to keep up with the stations. It
just takes some effort, like anything else.
3.
What motivated the band to do the accoustic cd
(tHE
tERRIBLE tRUTH)?
We did it out of necessity. In 1997 we found ourselves frustrated
and went through several members in a year and half, or so,
period. We thought what better of a way to keep doing what we
enjoy and make it known by going acoustic. It is not what people
expected, but in time, we gained more exposure and more fans
than I thought we would. I think that if nothing else, we gained
some respect from people and showed them that we have
substance.
4.
Tell us some the influences that have helped shape
your band
and it's sound!
Faith No More, Alice In Chains, Sevendust, Tool, to name a
few.
5.
Being based in the Midwest does that help or limit
your ability
to succeed in the music biz?
Not completely sure, I love our scene, but it is saturated. I know
people in bands that have uprooted themselves and moved to
where they thought success would find them. Some found it and
some did not.
6.
How long has Ockum's Razor been together?
We played our first show together in August of 2002. I joined
the band at the beginning of that year after they had been
looking for a vocalist for quite sometime.
7.
We noticed your auditioning for a new guitarist.
Have you seen
some serious talent trying for the position?
We have had some good prospects yes, but it takes time to find
the right fit and we are patient.
8.
What is next for your band. Tour dates, new releases....Tell
us
what your planning!
We have two shows left for the year, a Halloween show and a
Holiday show in December. We plan to add a fifth member while
on break and continue writing more new music and perfecting
what we have. In the meantime we will be working on getting
our new full-band EP out too. We plan to come back in
spring/summer of 2010 w/ a bang and with plenty of ammunition.
9.
In the internet age, is professional management
necessary for
a band to have success?
I think that professional management is definately a plus, it
gives me more free time to do other things for our band that I
wouldn't normally have time to do, because I would be too busy
booking shows, etc. So, it is key, but not necessary. However, if
you go that route your band needs to be well organized and
working on all four wheels, sort of speak.
10.
If you could change one thing in the music biz what
would it be?
The only thing that really bugs me is the politics of it and the
lack of respect that some show. But you will find that in any
business or way of life, so it comes with the package. If you love
doing it, then you should be able to tolerate it.
Thanks for thinking of us and your continued support!
OMC TV also wants to thank you for the benefit shows
and
charity fests, you play so very regularly. We salute YOU!!!
